Due to an agreement between Europe and Canada, European citizens do not need a visa to travel to Canada for a short period of 180 days. However, all visa-free citizens planning to visit Canada for less than six months must pre-register with the eTA, the Canadian version of ESTA, or the ETIAS visa waiver. For Europe, ETIAS is similar to the eTA, which will enhance traveler pre-screening and enhance the country’s security. From 2025, Canadian citizens will be required to register with ETIAS to travel to Europe.

From 2025, an ETIAS visa waiver will become mandatory for those wishing to travel to Europe. If your country is eligible for ETIAS, you will have to register and admit your data in the application. It takes no more than 10 minutes to fill out the form.

Travelers with valid travel authorizations will be permitted to continue their journey as long as all conditions are met. Travelers without valid ETIAS Visa waiver authorizations will be refused entry by border guards.
Yes, you can still apply for an ETIAS to discuss your conviction. Just because you have a criminal conviction does not mean that your application will be automatically denied. You will just need to answer some additional questions regarding your criminal history. If your application will not be approved, then you can appeal against the member state who denied your application.
