What is ETIAS?
What is ETIAS Canada?
European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is the European Union’s new framework for European travel, aimed at enhancing the Union’s security capabilities without compromising the smooth traveling experience.
Set to be launched in November 2023, ETIAS will enable Canadian nationals to visit the EU/Schengen Area countries (except Ireland) for up to 90 days with just a pre-issued digital travel permit, valid for three years.

ETIAS Requirements for Canadian Citizens
ETIAS Requirements for CA citizens
Applying for an ETIAS authorization is a simple procedure, taking less than 15 minutes. All you need to have are the following:
- Valid Canadian biometric passport.
- Completed ETIAS application form.
- Valid email address to receive updates and feedback.
Please note that ETIAS authorization cannot be transferred between two travel documents. If you change your passport, you must re-apply for a new ETIAS visa waiver, even if the old one isn’t expired.
It’s recommended to apply for ETIAS authorization 72 hours before your flight to the EU/Schengen Area.
Who Will Need ETIAS to Travel to Europe?
From November 2023, the citizens of 58 countries worldwide having visa-free access to European countries will be eligible for ETIAS authorization.
Once you complete the application process, you’ll receive a digital travel permit, enabling you to visit the EU/Schengen Area countries for up to three months every 180 days for three years.
As a Canadian citizen, you can immediately jump ahead of others by subscribing to the ETIAS newsletter.
