Currently, canadians can travel visa-free to 22 European countries for less than 90 days. In november 2023, travel requirements for Canadian residents will change. ETIAS Canada, or the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) will become a necessary step to take before visiting EU. ETIAS is a visa waiver with a purpose of per-screening visitors to Europe, resulting in enhanced security of the region.
Filling out an ETIAS Application form will be mandatory for Canadians, however, will take no more than 15 minutes. The information provided during the application stage goes through check across several information security databases, including EURODAC, the Schengen Information System (SIS), and the Visa Information System (VIS). Citizens of Canada can travel to the Schengen area multiple times during the ETIAS validity.
ETIAS Canada affects citizens of 60 nations worldwide that travel visa-free to Europe at the moment. This includes Canadians who travel to Europe for business, transit, or medical reasons. This visa waiver is not valid for travelers who wish to study or work in the EU or remain there for more than 90 days.
The ETIAS visa Canada is valid for 3 years and will allow Canadian citizens multiple entries into the Schengen region. The new program aims to make border control faster, safer and easier.

There are several requirements for Canadian citizens planning to travel to Europe to apply for an ETIAS:
The European visa waiver will electronically link to an individual passport, so Canadians will require to use the same passport when visiting the Schengen area as they do when applying. This travel info is especially true for the Canadians with dual citizenship.
The electronic system no longer requires printing a copy of the ETIAS from travelers who can only present a passport at the Schengen border checkpoint. The officials suggest to apply for ETIAS at least 72 hours prior to traveling. However, CA citizens should bring a printed copy of their approved visa waiver if the electronic system has any problems.
Who will need an ETIAS application approval for traveling to Europe?
There are 60 ETIAS eligible countries, including Canada. Currently, the citizens of those countries can travel to Europe without a visa. From November 2023, however, as ETIAS Canada goes live, these citizens will be required to apply for ETIAS, to travel to Europe.
ETIAS Europe will pre-screen all travelers before they board a plane. All information submitted to the ETIAS application will have their details carefully inspected and checked against 4 or 5 European security databases. Due to an agreement between Europe and Canada, European citizens do not need a visa to travel to Canada for a short period of 180 days.
